Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team begins the final week of the regular season with a pair of crucial Horizon League contests against Cleveland State at Les Miller Field this Sunday. The Mother's Day doubleheader begins at 12:05 p.m. UIC enters the twinbill at 25-19 overall and 12-6 in Horizon League play. With Wright State capping its league slate with a doubleheader sweep over the Vikings (20-23, 9-9 Horizon League) that moved the Raiders to 16-6 in the conference standings, the Flames must win both of Sunday's games and all three of next weekend's home games against Valparaiso to stay in the hunt for a seventh straight Horizon League regular season title and the league tournament's No. 1 seed. Rookie center fielder Steve McGuiggan continues to sit atop the Flames' hitting charts with a .373 batting average. Junior first baseman Brett Schaefer has a career-high 40 RBI in 44 games this season. In 44 career games in two seasons prior to the 2008 campaign, Schaefer had just seven RBI. Fellow junior Jake Carr has been one of the Flames' hottest hitters of late. The outfielder/first baseman has an eight-game hitting streak heading into Sunday and has driven in 20 runs in the last 17 games.
