Kent, Ohio - The UIC men's and women's track and field team highlighted the 2008 Indoor Track and Field Championships by setting three record performances this weekend at Kent State University Field House.

As a team, the UIC men took third place with 74 points, finishing behind Milwaukee (176) and Youngstown State (104.50). The women's squad placed eighth with eight points.

Mike Savegnago had a sensational performance in the heptathlon as he set the school and conference indoor record with 5,026 points. Savegnago continued to shine and set another career and school record winning his second consecutive indoor pole vault title with a career-best mark of 4.88 meters. He also placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters.

Andy Wall had a nice outing as he finished in third with a personal-best triple jump of 13.77 meters. He also tied his career-best high jump performance finishing in third with a leap of 1.93 meters.

Veteran Joseph Mbari came in a close second to Butler's Andy Baker in the 5,000-meter run crossing the finish line with a season-best 15:10.55. Mbari also placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:36.39.

Joe Bailey continued with his success in the weight throw, capping off the weekend with a third place performance in the weight throw with a career-best heave of 16.57 meters.

Other notables performances for the men included third place finish for Terell Williams in the pole vault (4.45m), a fifth place finish for Steve Royal in the 800-meter run (1:54.53), and a fifth place and career-best heptathlon performance for Mike Pawelek (3,703).

Monique Bostert highlighted the women's side as she set the school indoor record for the fourth time this season. Bostert ended the indoor championships with a career-best heave of 16.29 meters, placing fourth.

Idara Essien tallied a fourth place effort in the triple jump with a distance of 11.23 meters.

Lauren Fogarty had a strong effort in the long jump with a leap of 5.13 meters.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team also finished with a season-best time of 4:09.70.

The Flames will complete their indoor season next weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. beginning at noon.
