Women's Gymnastics Places Third In Tri-Meet With Ball State, SEMO

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team compiled its highest team score of the year with a 193.050 in a tri-meet against Ball State and SEMO at the UIC Physical Education Building on Saturday night. Ball State finished in second edging UIC with a season-best 193.175. SEMO won the contest with a tally of 194.350. One of UIC's strongest events of the night was on the balance beam. The Flames won the event both with their team score (48.900) and individually. Karen Morales and Emily Fiorilli were impressive on the beam as they both posted identical 9.800 scores, winning the event. Morales achieved a season-best score with her result and Fiorilli tied her season-best. UIC also shared the team floor exercise crown with SEMO scoring a 48.900. In the event, Sarah Murray dazzled the crowd with her best performance of the year tallying a 9.875. She shared the title with Ball State's Erica Gilkerson. Fiorilli shined on the floor as well notching a career-best routine of 9.825. DeAvera Todd was also impressive on the vault for the Flames as she finished with a brilliant score of 9.825. In the all-around competition, SEMO's Sandra Blake won the title with a 39.100. Other notable performances for the Flames included a 9.675 on the uneven bars for Christine Girard and a 9.725 on the floor for Tristan Erlenbaugh. Both Girard and Erlenbaugh tied their career-best marks with those scores. UIC will be back in action on Tuesday night (March 11) as they travel to Normal, Ill. to take on Illinois State. The meet will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
