Softball Falls To Loyola Marymount In Bottom Of Seventh Inning March 16, 2008
Los Angeles, Calif. - The UIC softball team suffered a 2-0 loss to Loyola Marymount on a two-run walk-off homer in the final contest of the LMU Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. Clynes was tossing a two-hitter until the bottom of the seventh when Chelsie Tysdal doubled to centerfield with only one out. Christine Foley then stepped up to the plate and drilled a two-run blast to left field for the win. In addition to six strikeouts, Sarah Clynes (4-10) allowed just four hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Nicole Robinson and Nikki Rogers each tallied a hit against the Lions. Following a single down the third base line from Robinson, Alicia Abbot advanced the senior to second on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the second. With two runners on base following a walk, pitcher Tiffany Pagano got LMU out of the inning with consecutive strikeouts. The Flames (7-18) got into scoring position in the top of the third and fifth inning, but were unable to take advantage of the opportunity, leaving three runners on base. UIC recorded a 2-4 mark in the Loyola Marymount Tournament with two wins over Bucknell. UIC hosts its home opener on Wed., March 19 against Central Michigan. The doubleheader is set to start at 3 p.m. CST.
