Softball Heads To Indiana For IU Classic

Complete Release in PDF Format Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team heads to Bloomington, Ind. to face Louisville and host Indiana in the IU Classic, March 21-22. UIC squares off against each team twice in the two-day round robin tournament. This marks the first meeting between UIC and Louisville. Indiana leads the series, 7-3. The Flames open the tournament against Louisville at 11 a.m. CST on Friday, March 21. UIC recorded a 3-2 mark in last year's IU Classic with two victories over Buffalo and a single win over Eastern Michigan. UIC's offensive charge this season is led by Ashlee Ackerman with a .333 batting average. The centerfielder owns a team-best 26 hits, ranking first in the Horizon League. Sarah Clynes has picked up four wins and two shutouts in the circle. The junior has totaled 54 strikeouts in 82.1 innings pitched. Louisville enters the tournament with a 12-11 overall record. The Cardinals are coming off consecutive victories over Minnesota at home on March 17. Melissa Roth paces Louisville at the plate with a .417 batting average. Indiana (5-17) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over UMass in eight innings on March 15. Jenni Huddleston owns a team-high .338 batting average with 22 hits, three doubles, two triples and seven RBI. Opening day at Flames Field is set for Tues., March 25 against Illinois.
