Cleveland, Ohio - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving squads finished the first day of the Horizon League Championships with a solid showing.

After eight events, the men's team took 111 points, sitting comfortably behind points leader Milwaukee with 145 for the day. The women gathered 80 points, with the championship favorite Wright State leading the day with 135 points.

Kelly Hashoian led the Flames in the first individual event for the week, placing fourth in the 1000-yard free with a new school record 10:25.22 effort. Emily Hare, a consistent middle distance competitor all season, trailed right behind Hashoian, placing sixth.

Konrad Korth led a trio of UIC swimmers in the 1000-free leading the team with a 9th-place, 9:45.62 finish. Davor Trnovljakovic and Mike Hare followed right behind Korth in 10th and 11th place.

A second school record was broken when Andrea Giczewski led off the 200 freestyle relay with a 23.65 split, bettering her previous record, set last season, of 23.65.

On the boards, Tristan Oleynik led the Flames with a sixth-place finish in the three-meter finals.

The Flames return to action tomorrow at 5 p.m. with the the 50 free, 200 IM and 500 free finals. The championships will also be streamed online, live at horizonleaguenetwork.com.
