Ames, Iowa - A balanced effort from newcomers and veterans on the UIC women's tennis team made the difference in a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Flames came out victorious in doubles action after Grace Gill-Morlis and Ulrikke von Ubisch squeaked out a close 8-7 win over Caitlin Loprinzi and Alyssa Palen in the second slot. Ilinca Cristescu and Jenna Reisch took down Liza Wischer and Reka Kelemen 8-3 at the third position.

After securing the doubles point, freshman Cristescu picked up a win at the second singles position, defeating Kara Hickley 6-1, 6-0.

Amy Jellish clinched the match for the Flames with a fifth position victory over Chrissy Derouin, sibling of former tennis standout Nicole Derouin, 7-5, 6-4.

The last time the Flames met the Cyclones was in 2006, which ended in a 6-1 Iowa State victory.
