Track & Field Takes Home Five Event Titles At University Of Chicago Invitational
Feb. 2, 2008 Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams earned themselves five event titles on Saturday afternoon at the University of Chicago Invitational. The men's team was led by first place finishes by seniors Terell Williams and Joe Bailey, as well as newcomer Steve Royal. Williams won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11 seconds, finishing just ahead of teammate Andy Wall who crossed the finish line in 8.34 seconds. Royal won his second 800-meter event of the season notching a season-best time of 1:57.94. Bailey also won his first event title of the indoor campaign in the weight throw. He finished off the afternoon throwing a distance of 16.27m. On the women's squad, veteran Idara Essien and sophomore Monique Bostert led the Flames in their respective events. Essien took first place honors in the triple jump with a leap of 11.75m. After last week's record setting effort, Bostert continued her success in the weight throw. She won her first event of the season with a throw of 15.24m. Sophomore Kristen McMurray also had a nice outing, finishing behind Bostert throwing a distance of 14.82m. The Flames' next meet will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Lewis Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
